European Heritage Open Days

On Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th September 2016, the annual European Heritage Open Days will take place, when some buildings that are not usually open, will be opened specially to the public, when guides will be available and organised tours will be provided. There will be a wide variety of sites participating, ranging from the Beaghmore Stone Circle located outside Cookstown,  St Eugene’s R.C. Cathedral Londonderry,  The Martello Tower at Magilligan Point, Tirkane Sweathouse, Maghera, Narrow Water Castle, Castle Coole,The Lightship Petrel located in Newtownards, Belfast Castle, Carlisle Memorial Church Belfast, Crumlin Road Gaol Belfast, Brownlow House Lurgan and Our Lady of Bethlehem in Portglenone and Craigs Church of Ireland Church Cullybackey, to mention but a few. A full listing will be found at .

Sadly, we in the Masonic Order have again missed out on the opportunity to let the public view our buildings and learn a little about what it means to be a Freemason. We only have two Lodge-rooms open this year, to act as our public face, and these are :-

McCammon Memorial Masonic Hall is located at 11 Sullivan Place, Holywood BT18 9JF. This beautiful old brick built building has some very interesting rooms and is well worth a visit, if you have not been previously in this Hall. The building will be open between 11.00am and 5.00pm on Saturday the 10th September 2016.

The Saintfield Hall, took part last year in the European Heritage initiative and enjoyed meeting many visitors and indeed found a few new members, who came along after visiting the Hall and meeting some of the members. For those who have not yet been to Saintfield, the Hall is located in Downpatrick Street, Saintfield BT25 7AY. It will be open on Sunday the 11th September between the hours of 2.00pm and 5.00pm.

Hopefully, Brethren, if you are out and about on Saturday or Sunday, you will consider visiting these two Halls and giving their members a bit of support as they participate in these most beneficial occasions.
