The Apron and the Sword

There have always been strong links between the Craft of Freemasonry and the various regiments of the British Army. These have been recorded by many writers over the years, but probably the best history was written in the year 1899 by Robert Freke  Gould, Barrister at Law and one of the founder members of Ars Quatuor Coronati Lodge No 2076 E.C.. This work under the heading of Military Lodges, uses the twin titles “The Apron and the Sword” or “Freemasonry under Arms” to introduce the topic of Lodges in Regiments and Ships of War and Famous Soldiers and Sailors who have belonged to the Society.

We are very fortunate in being able to host a PDF copy of this fact filled book, which is well worth reading, and I hope that you will all enjoy the contents therein.  We would acknowledge The Phoenixmasonry Masonic Museum and Library as the source for this worthwhile material.
