Rt Wor Bro Bashford lives in the north of Ireland, where he joined the Masonic Order in 1977. He became a Master Mason in 1978 and served as Master of his Mother Lodge, Moyarget No. 280 Irish Constitution in 1990. In 1978 he joined The Irish Lodge of Research, as a corresponding circle member and presented his first paper to the Lodge in 1984. Bob was invited to join the Younger Master Mason’s Committee of Antrim, after presenting a paper with his suggestions for possible changes to Lodge administration to encourage greater interest in our Lodge Meetings. He was appointed Vice Chairman in 1988 and carried out some two years of Lodge visits within the Province, before co-authoring the final report presented to the Provincial Grand Master and Officers of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Antrim. This report was picked up by Grand Lodge and was issued throughout The Irish Constitution as “The Way Forward “ document, which went on to have a major impact on workings within Lodges, Provincial Grand Lodges and Grand Lodge itself. He was appointed Richard Robinson Memorial Lecturer in the Irish Masonic Province of Antrim in 1992, 1994 and 2004. In 1996 he was appointed Grand Master's personal Standard Bearer by Most Wor. Bro Darwin Templeton, G.M.

In February 2000 he became the Millennium Master of the Irish Lodge of Research No. 200, and in 2001 went on to become Excellent King of the Irish Chapter of Research No. 222. He is the current Secretary of the Irish Lodge of Research, and before that, served as Editor for a period of 24 years, since 1992. In 1996, he became Editor of The Irish Chapter of Research, a post that he held for the next twenty years. He was appointed Representative of the Grand Lodge of Portugal at the Grand Lodge of Ireland in 2006 (a ten year appointment), giving him the courtesy title of Right Worshipful Brother. He is currently Provincial Grand Librarian and Archivist for the Province of Antrim, and Curator of the museum at their headquarters in Belfast.

Bob Bashford has been active in the field of Masonic research from the mid-1980s presenting his first paper in 1984. His work for the Lodge was acknowledged in 2009 with the presentation of the Lodge of Research Jewel of Merit for his work. In recent years he has spoken at Lodge Hope of Kurrachi and the Manchester Association of Masonic Research, on top of a heavy schedule of Lodge presentations throughout Ireland.

In October 2010, he received an invitation to participate in a worldwide lecture series endorsed by the Grand Lodge of Indiana. The endeavour aimed to raise Masonic awareness and inspire discussion and debate across the world. His presentation entitled “The Gift of Irish Freemasonry to the World” has been viewed some 75,000 times since its original hosting by The Grand Lodge of Indiana. He has been closely associated with the development of a European Workshop, hosted in Athens since 2014 by The Philotecton Society of Greece. He participated in the first workshop in 2014, and was subsequently invited to join the Editorial Committee for the 2015 and 2017 events. In 2016 Bob gave his first presentation to Quatuor Coronati Lodge in London and in 2017, was one of the keynote speakers at the first I.C.O.M.fm conference held in Toulon in May 2017. He also presented a history of Knight Masonry which was presented in Athens at the third annual workshop  held at the end of August 2017.
